Red Onion 'Rossa di Milano'
From our friends at Winnow Farm Seeds comes Rossa di Milano, a striking Italian heirloom onion with broad, rounded shoulders tapering gracefully to a slender root. This deep red beauty is a joy to grow from seed, sow in February and enjoy a late-summer harvest. It’s a brilliant storage onion, producing sweet, richly coloured bulbs that will keep well through the winter.
When harvested fresh, the tender stems are edible too, adding another layer of versatility in the kitchen. Bulbs left to mature a little longer develop a more pungent, traditional onion flavour. Simply dry the bulbs thoroughly after lifting, and they’ll stay in excellent condition throughout winter.
- Sow: multi-sow 3-5 seeds per module for bulbs or clusters of 10 for spring onions, March undercover
- Plant: 20cm spacing between modules
- Harvest: July-August
