From our friends at Winnow Farm Seeds comes ‘Mideast Peace’, a Lebanese-type cucumber that ticks all the boxes: sweet, crisp, and long-lasting. Unlike standard supermarket cucumbers, the fruits rarely exceeding 15 cm, with a wonderfully crunchy texture that makes them perfect for fresh eating. Harvest thumb-sized for pickles or wait until they’re palm-sized for classic salads, enjoying a steady crop all summer long.

The vines are vigorous yet manageable, growing 1–1.5 m tall. They can be left to sprawl or trained on strings or trellises, though training tends to produce straighter, higher-quality fruits. ‘Mideast Peace’ is also remarkably reliable in a range of growing conditions, making it a standout for both beginner and seasoned gardeners.

Sow: April on a sunny windowsill or heated propagator at 21C.
Plant: Harden off and plant into unheated greenhouse/polytunnel after risk of frost has passed. Usually ready to transplant 4 weeks after sowing. Plant at 60cm spacing, train up strings or leave to sprawl.
Harvest: As baby cucs for pickles or for salads.
