Winter Squash 'Black Futsu'
From our friends at Winnow Farm Seeds comes the Black Futsu winter squash, a gentle grower with none of the usual rampaging tendencies. These plants are far less brutish than many squash varieties, weaving themselves neatly through the vegetable patch and happily co-existing with neighbouring plants rather than overwhelming them.
The fruits are small, beautifully formed squashes that rarely weigh more than a kilo, making them the ideal size to roast whole. Inside, the flesh is creamy and comforting, with a thin, tender skin that requires no peeling. Given a long season, the fruits will mature to a soft, dusty orange, but they can be harvested and enjoyed at any stage. A perfectly proportioned squash that proves good things really do come in small packages.
