Banana Shallot 'Cuisse de Poulet du Poitou'
From our friends at Winnow Farm Seeds comes Cuisse de Poulet du Poitou, a classic French banana shallot with bags of savoury-sweet flavour. Mild enough to enjoy raw in dressings and salads, it truly comes into its own when cooked low and slow, melting into dishes with a rich, rounded sweetness. The elongated bulbs grow to around onion size, delivering all the depth of a shallot without the fiddly peeling.
They produce elegant, tapered bulbs wrapped in a beautiful rusty-rose skin. Harvest early and you can enjoy the tender green stems as well as the bulbs; leave them longer and the flavour deepens, becoming more robust and aromatic. Once lifted, simply dry the bulbs thoroughly and they’ll store happily through winter, making this a generous, versatile crop that earns its place in both garden and kitchen.
Sow: multi-sow 3-5 seeds per module, March undercover
Plant: 20cm spacing between modules
Harvest: July-August
